This information will be discussed at the meeting of prospective EAMS/EAHS 2010 junior high soccer participants. The meeting is at 2 p.m. June 7, 2010 in the middle school cafeteria.

Coaching Staff

Coach Adams and Coach Hoffman will be the coaches in 2010. Please see the Junior High Coaching Staff web page for information about them.

Summer Activities

There are three pick-up dates in July that have been added to the online google calendar already. They are Mondays, July 5, 12, and 19, from 6-8 p.m. More may be added, but we do not want to schedule them until we know for sure that a coach is available to supervise. If more are added, a note will be posted on the website and the events will be added to the google calendar on the schedule page. All pick-ups will be at the East High Elementary fields.

Equipment and Apparel

Each student must be equipped with the following for each tryout and practice.

  1. Soccer cleats
  2. Running shoes
  3. Shin guards
  4. White, blue, or black soccer socks
  5. Black or blue soccer shorts (too-long shorts are not appropriate)
  6. White or gray T-shirt

Each student must bring at least one quart of water to each tryout. Two quarts is even safer.

Tryouts and Team Options

Rising 9th graders have two tryout options. The high school program (varsity and JV) starts its tryouts on Monday, August 16 at 8 a.m. in Thompson Stadium. Ninth graders are strongly encouraged to attempt to make the high school program. Coach Sostack informs these students of whether or not he can offer them a position in the high school program on Thursday, August 19. Ninth graders who are not offered a playing position with the high school program should join the 7th and 8th graders for the junior high tryouts. There is no guarantee that 9th graders will be offered a playing spot in the junior high program, whether or not they try out for the high school program.

Junior high tryouts begin Monday, August 23 at 8 a.m. at the fields behind East High Elementary. Please see the schedule page and click on items on the google calendar for both start and end times of activities. Coaches will attempt to evaluate students within the first three days, then notify students at the end of the third practice (8/25) of whether or not they will be offered a position on the A-team, B-team, or no team this year.

Students should be familiar with the program Core Values prior to attending tryouts. Students will be evaluated and chosen for the program based on core values, soccer skills, athleticism, behavior, and coachability.

Commitment

Students participating in either the high school or junior high program are expected to put this commitment above other extracurricular activities. Attendance at all practices and games is mandatory, and students are expected to maintain quality grades throughout the season.
